When visiting Botswana’s Okavango Delta there’s no better way to savour the experience than on horseback.

During the flood season, vast areas of the Delta become inaccessible to vehicles, but horses can move across the submerged terrain with ease.

Picture yourself galloping alongside herds of giraffes and zebras. Feel the rush of excitement as you eagerly await for elephants and buffalos to appear out of the bush.

Immerse yourself in mopane forests, undulating flood planes, and streams that make up the vast everchanging landscapes of the Delta.

How To Visit the Okavango Delta on a Horse Safari

Previous riding experience is needed to go on these tours.

To make the most out of this experience, you need to be at ease riding outdoors, keeping your balance over varied and uneven ground and having the reflexes to keep and find your seat again if the horse were to swerve suddenly.

Only experienced riders can do the big game safaris on a horse.

Equus Journeys offer a 7 day horseback safari in the south of the Okavango Delta departing from Johannesburg.

We hope your travels take you in this direction very soon.

Until then - keep exploring!
