Mount Toubkal Trek

Hey there!

If you’ve dreamt of traveling to Morocco, but are not interested in visiting crowded markets and tourist traps, then this trek might be your ticket to see the wilder side of this beautiful country.
At 13,671 ft (4,167m) Mount Toubkal is the highest peak in North Africa. But don’t let that dissuade you, it is a non-technical summit so there is no mountaineer experience required if you’re hiking in summer conditions.
From Imlil, you’ll ascend the Toubklal Valley, which is a great opportunity to catch a glimpse of Amazigh life as you pass through traditional villages that are built into the steep valley side.
The first night is spent in a mountain refuge where you’ll rest the night before your summit attempt tomorrow.
A typical summit day starts early, we’re talkin’ pre-dawn darkness early.
This first milestone is reaching Toubkal Pass. Since you’ll be walking in the dark, with no visual reference to the progress made, it can feel like a never-ending ascent.
Once you make it to the pass, you’ll see the peak of Toubkal in the distance.
The goal is to reach the ridge and finish the climb in time to watch the sunrise.
Trekkers who reach the top are rewarded with views from the Marrakech Plain and High Atlas peaks all the way to the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara.
It’s not too often you get such a dramatic look at mountains, ocean, and desert, all at once.
