INTERVIEW
Dan Gavere: The Godfather of Whitewater SUP
Photo: Dan Gavere
White water kayaking has been around for hundreds of years but tackling the rapids on a standup paddle board wasn't a thing until the early 2000's.
Dan Gavere was one of the OGs of the sport and is known by some to be the "Godfather of whitewater SUP".
Here's a conversation between Dan and SUP Paul where they talk about the best places to paddle, the accessibility of whitewater SUP vs kayak and what the future of the sport might look like.
TOGETHER WITH REI
REI Puts the Ease in e-Bikes
Photo: REI
Cycling uphill and smiling typically aren't two things you do at the same time. Unless you're riding an e-bike of course.
REI has a whole lineup of electric bikes that are perfect for cruising around camp, hauling kids or commuting.
You can buy online and pick up in-store. One of their experts will assemble your bike and mount any accessories you'd like to add.
So, which model is right for you?
⚡ Co-op Cycles CTY e1.1: This e-bike is a great value—it’s the least expensive option in the lineup. For the price, the bike comes loaded with hydraulic disc brakes, front and rear lights that run off the battery and solid components.
⚡Co-op Cycles CTY e2.1: This is a step up from the e1.1. It has a slightly longer battery range, upgraded components and 9 gears instead of 7. Also, it has an integrated rear rack which is great for mounting a kid seat or panniers.
⚡Co-op Cycles CTY e2.2: Here's the most powerful bike in the lineup. You'll feel like you have quads of steel as you flatten hills. What's even better is it's on sale right now: get 20% off.
We love to shop at REI, especially for big purchases like this one because they make sure that you leave 100% happy. So, don't sweat it if you accidentally order the wrong size or want to swap it out for a different model.
Get cruisin' this weekend. Check out REI Co-op e-bikes.
As always, REI takes extra care of their Co-op members. Here are some of the perks.

HIKING DESTINATIONS
New Zealand's Ultimate Alpine Adventure
Photo: NZ Mountain Safety Council
If you have any doubt that nature is the best artist, head to New Zealand. Over thousands of years, colossal glaciers sculpted out the southern lakes area to form some of the most remarkable landscapes on the planet.
These ridges, valleys, mountain peaks and cliffs make some beautiful and challenging tramping (Kiwi for hiking) routes.
One trek in particular that stands out above the rest is the Routeburn Track.
Watch this: Don't just take our word for it, see a bit of the trail for yourself. Here's a video that will make you want to pack your backpack and book flights to New Zealand right now.
