WILDLIFE ENCOUNTERS

Tracking Wild Bears in Northern Greece

Tracking Wild Bears in Northern Greece

When you think of brown bears, I’m guessing Greece probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind. But in the rugged mountains and wide-spanning forests about 450 of these creatures can be found.

Unfortunately, Greece’s bear population has dwindled due to poaching and loss of habitat. But an NGO, named ‘Callisto’, is working to preserve and grow the remaining bear population.

The organization has partnered up with outdoor experts to offer intrepid travellers the chance to track bears in the Pindos Mountains. Each hike explores truly remote trails in the Pindos Mountains and includes a donation to Callisto.
