UNIQUE EXPERIENCES
Paragliding over the Atacama Desert
Paragliding over the Atacama Desert near Iquique is an experience like no other, thanks to a unique blend of weather and geography that has made this area a mecca for pilots from around the globe.
The Pacific breeze, cooled by ocean currents, meets the steep coastal mountain range, creating consistent lift for hours of flying. The nearby Andes mountains cast a rain shadow that forms the hyper-arid Atacama Desert, where endless sand and rock-covered slopes generate powerful thermals, perfect for extended flights. With no vegetation, pilots can land almost anywhere outside the city, adding to the freedom.
Iquique’s sites are ideal for both beginners and experienced pilots. Newer fliers can develop skills like kiting and launching on the dunes of Palo Buque, while advanced pilots enjoy cross-country opportunities, often staying airborne for five hours or more along the coastal range.
This unique environment makes Iquique a premier destination for paragliders worldwide, offering the chance to push boundaries and achieve personal bests.

Baja’s Mobula Ray Migration
Every spring and fall, thousands of mobula rays gather in Baja California’s Sea of Cortez, especially around La Paz and Cabo Pulmo, putting on an incredible show with their acrobatic leaps out of the water.
These rays can jump several feet into the air, flipping and somersaulting, which scientists think might be for communication, finding mates, or even getting rid of parasites.
Mobula rays are like smaller, faster cousins to manta rays and can swim at impressive speeds of up to 22 miles per hour. Baja’s nutrient-rich waters make it a perfect spot for them, with plenty of plankton to feed on.
This migration is a highlight for divers and snorkelers who get the rare chance to swim alongside thousands of these beautiful, graceful creatures in massive schools. It’s a mesmerizing sight and a must-do for ocean lovers looking to witness something truly special in Baja’s waters.

STAYS
Sava Dunes
Sava Dunes is a gorgeous eco-lodge tucked along Mozambique’s coast, close to the town of Tofo but worlds away in atmosphere. Completely off-grid and powered by solar, this laid-back retreat uses natural materials that blend seamlessly into the surroundings, giving it an eco-friendly vibe without sacrificing comfort.
As one guest put it, “The location is 6 star.” Set on a private beach, Sava Dunes offers prime access to Mozambique’s marine life, with opportunities to dive and snorkel among whale sharks, manta rays, and colorful reefs.
During whale season, you might even catch humpbacks breaching from the beach. For those who’d rather stay on land, the lodge organizes nature walks through the nearby dunes and bush.
The lodge’s cozy villas are spaced out for privacy and have awesome ocean views, perfect for unwinding after a day in the water or on the trails. With wellness perks like sunrise yoga and spa treatments, Sava Dunes is all about relaxed adventure and connecting with nature—ideal for anyone looking to unplug in a truly special spot.

3 Truly Unique Adventure Lodges to Visit in 2025
If you are planning your next adventure trip and still haven’t decided where to go next, here are some suggestions of 3 amazing and lesser known island lodges that will deliver an epic adventure vacation.
Moheli Laka Lodge, in Comoros. If you are looking for a real off the beaten path place with stunning scuba diving, pristine reefs, very reasonable prices and the possibility of swimming with Humpback whales without other tourists around, this is the place for you.
Matafonua Lodge, in Tonga. Located on one of the South Pacific's most beautiful beaches on the northern tip of Foa Island, in the Ha'apai island group, this lodge is something else. Spend your days in isolation scuba diving, kayaking, sailing, SUPing, kiteboarding, and swimming with Humpback whales!
Ratua Private Island Resort, in Vanuatu. If you are dreaming of an idyllic tropical island but, if you are like me, can’t stand the awkward pampering by staff in white polos that come with resorts, this is the lodge you’re looking for. It’s a wild, magical place with authentic people who offer a simple yet comfortable stay in a naturally beautiful environment with great hiking, diving & kayaking right out the door.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"As we used to say in the mountains, "Breathe. Breathe again. With every breath, you are alive." After all these years, this still the best advice I can give you: Savor your existence. Live every moment. Do not waste a breath."
