CYCLING

E-biking through the Swiss Alps

For centuries, the towering mountains of The Swiss Alps have drawn trekkers, cyclists, and skiers from around the world.

Now, there’s a new way to explore the intricate network of immaculate trails while getting an authentic Swiss experience, on an e-bike.

Spend a week riding around the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you’ll cruise along high alpine pastures, past gigantic glaciers, rushing waterfalls, and crystal-clear lakes.

Anything from technical switchbacks to flowy downhill can be found here.

What we love about the Swiss Alps is when your legs can’t take it anymore, you can stop off at a mountain lodge for a cool drink and a warm rösti.

REMOTE PLACES

Wallis and Futuna

For some, a trip to France conjures up thoughts of croissants and the Eiffel Tower, but for more adventurous travelers, that means visiting the country’s far-flung overseas territories, like Wallis and Fortuna.

This little-known destination in the South Pacific Ocean is made up of three main volcanic islands—Wallis, Futuna, and Alofi.

The islands are full of ways to explore. Standup paddle and snorkel Wallis’s turquoise lagoons, trek the lush jungles of Futuna, and dive Alofi’s pristine scuba sites.

Top places to visit include the cannibal oven at Lafua, the Tongan Fortress, Lalolalo Crater Lake, Loka Cave, and Poi Basilica.

UNIQUE EXPERIENCES

Ski Touring in Georgia

Home to some of Europe’s highest and most remote peaks, Georgia is a paradise for backcountry skiers.

After a long day of skiing Gvibari Pass or gliding through medieval Ushguil villages, treat yourself to a glass of famous Georgian wine and a hearty meal.

A winter visit to this small country in the Caucasus not only offers plenty of unspoiled powder, but a chance to get a glimpse of the past.

It’s been inhabited since prehistoric times so there are plenty of cave dwellings, monasteries, fortresses, and medieval villages to stop off and visit.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“It’s the strangest thing: A lot of people as they get older get more protected and terrified. My desire is to keep throwing myself into things. My parenting, my relationship, my work. I’ll take the pain. I’ll take the joy. Because the feeling makes me go, I’m in life. It’s an enormous gift, this life.”

— Nicole Kidman
